Professor Michel Safar
It is with immense sadness that the ARTERY Society learned of the death of Professor Michel Safar on Saturday 27th January, 2024, aged 87 years.Professor Safar’s impact on the study of haemodynamics and, in particular, large artery stiffening, have transformed our understanding of hypertension and cardiovascular disease more broadly. He was the inaugural winner of the Society’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008. Over the coming weeks and months there will, undoubtedly, be many tributes paid to Professor Safar, highlighting his many professional achievements. A history has passed and our thoughts are with Professor Safar’s family at this sad time. May he rest in peace.
