What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?: biking in the hills surrounding my hometown, reading a good book (Recommendation: Yuval Noah Harari: Homo Deus. A brief history of tomorrow)

I have been a member of the Society for more than 10 years, was the local co-organizer of the Vienna meeting in 2012, and actively participated in all meetings but one since ARTERY 6 (Athens, 2006). I had the honor to serve as Ordinary Member of the Executive Committee 2010-2013, I have been a member of the Societies Council, and of the Editorial Board of Artery Research. Currently, I serve as vice president of the Society since 2018.

My strong ties to ARTERY come from the fantastic forum for scientific exchange, discussion, and collaboration, provided by the Society. This stimulating environment offers unique options for scientific advancement by bringing bioengineers, basic researchers, epidemiologists, clinicians and other scientists together. In particular, young investigators and mid-term researchers find a creative atmosphere to advance their ideas. Deeply rooted in these traditions, the Society in the future might focus on ideas to think outside the “ivory tower”. Finding ways to bring arterial physiology to clinical practice will be beneficial for our Society, but even more for the community by tackling the burdens of arteriosclerosis and subsequent diseases.
