Welcome Letter

Dear Colleague,

We are pleased to invite you to attend ARTERY 18, to be held from Thursday 18th to Saturday 20th October 2018 at the Centro Cultural Vila Flor, Guimarães, Portugal.

Our 18th ARTERY meeting continues to focus on all aspects of arterial structure and function, particularly this year on interactions with and to the brain – that is ‘neurovascular coupling’. All relevant aspects of basic and clinical science are welcome – imaging, bioengineering, haemodynamics, epidemiology, pharmacology, treatments, preventive measures etc. Other topics include biochemical mediators, lipids and inflammation.

Abstracts for oral and poster presentations on any such topics are invited and the Society offers prestigious prizes for the best oral presentation by a Young Investigator, for best poster, and Career Development Awards for mid-grade, more established researchers. Accepted abstracts are published in the Society’s official journal, ARTERY Research, in December.

The Conference is a premium opportunity to establish new collaborations and network with a highly informed, friendly audience across many different backgrounds. Colleagues from sister Societies in North America (North American Artery), Latin America (LATAM Artery), Asia (Pulse of Asia) and Australia join us, with particular attention for Young Investigators who represent nearly half the presenters of free communications, and many invited lectures. Artery has several travel grants for European & more distant presenters, particularly from Lower-Middle Income countries.

The conference takes place at the Centro Cultural Vila Flor, next to the historic Centre of Guimarães, in an 18th Century Palace, with stunning views over the historic city. The venue is walking distance to major hotels and the railway station. You will not need public transportation after arriving.

Guimarães is a UNESCO World Heritage city, birthplace of Portugal and its first capital. After scientific sessions, you will find many museums, monasteries, castles and open plazas with bistros and a vibrant multicultural beat. Guimarães was European Capital of Culture 2012 and European Capital of Sport in 2013.

We invite you to follow us on Twitter and Facebook, for updates from the meeting and the City. Who knows? Perhaps you will decide to stay a few more days for Portuguese culture and gastronomy!

On behalf of the Local Organising and Executive Committees of ARTERY 18, we look forward to welcoming you to Guimarães in October.
