We are pleased to invite you to attend Artery 10 which will be held from Sunday 17th to Tuesday 19th
October 2010 at Palazzo della Gran Guardia, Verona,
Italy.
This conference follows on from previous highly successful ARTERY meetings, which
have established a
tradition in the field. ARTERY 10 will cover an expanded list
of topics related to large artery structure and
function through keynote lectures,
abstract presentations and practical demonstrations. This year, special
emphasis will be given to arterial stiffness in special situations and as a target
for drugs, the interrelationship between endothelium, micro, and macro vessels and
heart vessels coupling.
The Artery Society aims to be the bridge between all societies dealing with arterial
structure, function and
physiology, fostering exchanges of ideas and novel research.
Delegates of these societies are warmly
invited to actively participate in ARTERY 10, and joint sessions will be held with the European Society
of Hypertension, the European Society of Cardiology and the Italian Society of Hypertension.
We welcome abstracts for both oral and poster presentations dealing with clinical
research, experimental
studies, epidemiology, biomechanical, methodological, and
genetic research related to large artery structure
and function. The presentation
of data at this meeting will provide the opportunity for scientific interaction
and discussion with a highly informed audience. The Society will provide prestigious
prizes for the best oral
presentation by a young investigator and best poster, together
with two Career Development Awards for
more established researchers. All accepted
abstracts will be published in the official journal of the Society – ARTERY Research
later in the year.
The congress activities will take place at Palazzo della Gran Guardia, a beautiful
historic building which is now a Congress Centre. The venue is located in the centre
of the city, within walking distance of the major hotels.
After the scientific sessions, you will be attracted by the beauties and the glamour
of the city of Verona, with its monuments and museums, its culture and charms.
On behalf of the Artery Society Executive and Local Organising Committee, we look
forward to welcoming you to Verona in October, with the aim of combining science
and arts, leaving you with good memories.

DATES AND VENUE
Artery 10 will be held in Verona, Italy from the afternoon of Sunday
17th October to
Tuesday 19th October 2010.
Verona is a city in the northern Italian region
Veneto and one of seven provincial capitals of the region.
The meeting will be held at the Palazzo della Gran Guardia, an imposing baroque
style building and former military parade ground in the centre of the city overlooking
the Piazza Bra and the world famous Arena of Verona. The palace is now a fully equipped
conference centre.
The address is Palazzo della Gran Guardia, Piazza Bra, 37123 Verona, Veneto, Italy.
|
 |
Recently awarded the status of a "World Heritage Site", Verona has delighted painters,
poets, travellers and celebrities for centuries. The city is a fascinating crossroads
of historical periods and cultures (both classical and Germanic), a blend of both
Nordic and "Mediterranean" influences, at the same time both ancient and modern.
The setting of Shakespeare's famous, fictional play Romeo and Juliet, Verona is
often referred to as 'Italy's Little Rome' (Piccola Roma) due to its rich history.
Old Verona (centro storico) is fairly small in size and is cram-packed with interesting
buildings and squares, being surrounded by lengthy city walls.
Verona's historic centre (centro storico) lies within the town walls in a tight
curve of the Adige river. Historical highlights include the 18th-century Piazza
Bra and its many surrounding palaces. On the opposite side of the river you will
find the Roman Theatre and the beautiful Renaissance garden, Giardino Giusti, where
it is reputed that Mozart used to enjoy a stroll and where Artery’s Conference Dinner
will be held.
Verona was an important Roman town and is rich in archaeological sites. The Roman
Arena, where concerts and operas are now performed in the summer, is the city's
grandest sight. This was Roman Verona's principal entertainment venue, with seating
for 20,000. The high arched structure is well-preserved and is open to the public.
The town's museums and churches contain fine works of art, while the ruined Teatro
Romano over the river has excellent views from the terraces where the ancients watched
plays.
CLIMATE
Whilst temperatures may vary from year to year, Verona tends to enjoy a
pleasant climate all year round. The spring and autumn are generally the best seasons
to visit Verona.

TRAVELLING TO VERONA
Verona is situated in Northern Italy in the Veneto region, between the
cities of Brescia and Venice and only 30 km east of Lake Garda. The Palazzo della
Gran Guardia is situated in the centre of Verona, approximately 5 minutes by taxi
from the main railway station and 20 minutes from the airport.

Verona Villafranca International Airport "Valerio Catullo" is about
12 km from the town centre and well connected despite its small size. Many airlines
fly to Verona: British Airways from London Gatwick, Air France from Paris, Lufthansa
from Munich and Frankfurt, Alitalia from Rome, Meridiana from many other Italian
cities and regions, Airdolomiti connects Verona with Spain, Austria and other European
countries.
There is a shuttle bus service to and from the airport every 20 minutes leaving
from railway station Verona Porta Nuova.
A convenient alternative is to fly into Venice, Bergamo or one of Milan’s two airports.
Milan Linate is close to the centre of Milan and Milan Malpensa is a large international
airport approximately 1 hour from Milan city centre. There are excellent rail links
between Venice, Bergamo, Milan and Verona.
By Train
The railway station Verona Porta Nuova is at the crossing of two
major railway lines with fast direct trains to all major cities in the north of
Italy including Venice, Bergamo and Milan.
By Car
Excellent road and rail links ensure the city is accessible from all parts of Italy.
Two main motorways (A4 and A22) connect the city to Milan, Venice and Modena.
